Working for yourself from the comfort of your own home is the ultimate dream of many. However, like any traditional office setting, there will be challenges. You’ll face constant distractions, and without discipline, planning and focus, you’ll find yourself battling to maintain a consistent level of productivity.
Each day will be different, but there are so many simple things you can do to help you stay on track, which is why today I’m sharing some of my top tips for working from home and staying productive. We’re all different, but hopefully some of my tips will help you out as well.
Get Up And Get Dressed
I know staying home and working in PJ’s sounds like a great idea, but it will only make you feel like you should just roll back into bed. Then you will feel totally unmotivated, no work gets done, and Netflix will probably be where it’s at. Not very productive if you ask me! My advice is to get up, take a shower, and put on something stylish, but still very comfy. A chic and casual shift dress is always ideal.
Have A Schedule
Planning is a very important aspect when working from home, which is why it’s so important to have a schedule and stick to it. Wake up early, have your coffee/tea and breakfast, and carefully write up your schedule for the day, including all your tasks and deadlines so you can keep track of what you have achieved and what needs to be done. It’s so easy to get side-tracked while working from home, so this step really works wonders. Of course, ensure you add in your lunch break, coffee break, whatever break you need to take to keep going.
Create A Workspace
Who’s guilty of working from the couch or curled up in bed? *raises hands* If you don’t have a designated work area with a desk and chair, you’re probably in this position too. However, working around the dining table can suffice for the time being, though you won’t have all the drawers and storage space to keep you completely organized. If you do have a home office, ensure it’s away from any distractions such as the television, and that it inspires you. Hang inspirational prints, images of family – whatever inspires you, have it right there in front of your eyes.
Sometimes we get so caught up in working that we forget to eat a decent lunch, yet it is so important that we have a nutritious meal so that our brains can function at its best. Don’t Stay At Home All The Time
Now you’re probably thinking, “why do I need to leave my actual house if my plan is to work from home?” Truth is, staying inside all the time can really affect your productivity negatively. Working from a new environment every once in a while can help boost your creative ideas, especially if you’e battling to brainstorm new ideas for projects. Plus, we’re all social creatures, so popping up at a coffee shop, a park, or even the beach if you can, is always a good idea to break the usual routine and maintain your sanity.
